Bubbles- it’s a wrap…

Bubble Wrap was invented in 1957 by Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes. They sealed two shower curtains together, creating a mattress of air bubbles. And then tried to sell it as wallpaper! Luckily for the state of sitting rooms across the world, the product turned out to be unsuccessful as wallpaper, but undeterred, the team then set about marketing it as greenhouse insulation.

Bubble Wrap was eventually branded by Sealed Air Corporation in 1960, but it was not until a few years later that its use in protective packaging was realised. Bubble Wrap’s first client was IBM, which used the product to protect the IBM 1401 computer during shipment. Since that time the bubble has never burst, with Sealed Air celebrating Bubble Wrap’s 50th birthday in January 2010.

At Gentleman & a Van we have a range of packaging solutions that are ideal for surface protection, cushioning and filling gaps. The bubbles provide effective protection when moving house furniture, as well as packaging manufactured products for storage and during transportation. So if you are moving home, check out our Boxshop for Bubble Wrap and a range of other packaging options.

Can you think of another form of packaging that inspires such affection? Barely a thumb or forefinger alive can resist its sweet, stress-relieving, crackling allure. That’s the beauty of the bubble. Since its introduction in the 1960’s, Bubble Wrap has become as priceless as the parcel. And over Christmas time, countless sheets of plastic blisters will be revealed as presents and packages are ripped open. And with that mayhem will come a cacophony of pops. Beautiful.

You can even play bubble wrap games.

Pop.

You know you want to. The temptation is strong. Go on, just one more…

… Pop. Pop. Pop!

Lovely bubbly…
